Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a 2020 action role-playing video game that was lead by Ubisoft Montreal, co-developed by Ubisoft Singapore with other co-developing studios, and published by Ubisoft.

This was the first AAA title that I have worked on and the first professional project that I have worked on as a Level Designer

I have learned many work processes that are needed to make a game with such a massive scale.

Key elements that I have worked on:

  • Worked mainly in Eurvicscire Region, and have helped out in Snotinghamscire Region as well.

  • Worked closely with the game designer(s) and gameplay programmers on raid landing tech, metrics and communicate with other level designers on the usage. Established and aligned raid landing design standards throughout all the raid-able locations.

  • Worked on Fly Agaric Locations and Toy-related setups throughout Eurvicscire and Snotinghamscire Region.

Eurvicscire

Responsibilities as a Level Designer

  • Was in charge of many locations within Eurvicscire region, brought those locations towards AAA standard, and successfully shipped those locations in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.

  • Designed multiple-level layouts based on the location types and directions given.

  • Communicate level specifications with team members (such as level artists, lighting artists, quest designers, etc) using one-pagers and using sketch-up as a visual aid.

  • Integrated levels and iterate level changes based on design changes and feedbacks given.

  • Involved in the closing process of the region

Level Breakdown [Flaneburg Priory]

  • One of the locations that I have worked on during the production phase: Flaneburg Priory

  • One of the first elements that I wanted to push for this location is to emphasize the player's abilities within the raid location.

    • The first step was to understand the metrics and establish narrow cliff setups, which will emphasize the usage of player's abilities which is something you can notice in the above image.

  • One of the challenges that I experienced was dealing with the raid technology and design intention, it's something new in the AC brand and there were a lot of design iterations to adapt from.

    • Despite that, the core design of the initial level layout remained in the final product which helps to make it one of the more memorable locations within Eurvicscire.
